200th Anniversary Celebration
On February 5, 2012 Tabernacle Church will be celebrating the 200th Anniverary of the Commissioning of the first five missionaries who left America to go to foreign countries. Adoniram Judson and Ann, and Samuel Newell and Harriet sailed from Derby Wharf on February 19, 2012 on the brig Caravan, and landed in India in June, 2012. Eventually the Judsons went to Burma where they spent the rest of their lives preaching and teaching and translating the Bible into Burmese. Our celebration will be in honor of those intrepid men and women who left home and family to help others. Our mission endeavors continue today as we work to make life better for those in need in all parts of the world, particularly in areas of devastation caused by fires, earthquakes and floods. Come and join in our celebration as we review the history of our church and look forward to a renewal of our committment to Extending Hands, Expecting Miracles!

I believe that deepening our faith through Bible Studies is an important way for us to develop our relationship with Jesus. At Tabernacle, we offer unique opportunities for Adults to study together.
Beginning Monday November 7 at 12:00 noon, please join me for a Lectionary Discussion Group. Each week, we will look at the upcoming scripture passage using tools from the curriculum “Feasting on the Word.” Everyone is welcome! Bring a bag lunch.
Monday Advent Bible Studies
7:30 AM – Taking a closer look at Mary, the mother of Jesus. Using texts from all four Gospels, we will discover more about this woman who accompanied her son from birth to death.
4:00 PM – Who are the men that influenced young Jesus? Looking at his birth and early journey to Egypt, who were the prominent men in Ancient Palestine and in this young boy’s life?
Monday Lenten Bible Studies
7:30 AM – a 5-week study focused on Mary Magdelene as the most important disciple.
4:00 PM – a 5-week Bible Study focused on Judas Iscariot, the most controversial disciple.
Tabernacle Church and the History of Missionaries
Beginning Monday January 9 at 5:00 pm, let’s look at the history of the first Missionaries to leave America on a ship. We will read excerpts from historical documents and discuss the impact that 1812 Missionaries have on 2012 Mission Programs. Then on Sunday February 5 at 10:00 AM join us for worship to commemorate the first Missionaries. The Rev. Liz Walker will be preaching.
Adult Spiritual Formation is vital to our souls and to our world. I love to be in a circle of curious Christians who want to study together. Please gather in my office for these spiritual discussions.
Peace,
Rev. Laura
