Tabernacle Congregational Church in Salem, Massachusetts is in the process of planning a celebration on February 5, 2012 to commemorate 200 years since the Commissioning of the first missionaries to be sent from America to foreign countries. Our committee is making plans for the coming celebration, and would like you to have the date on your calendars, so that you can make arrangements to be with us at this wonderful moment in time!
We will gather for a memorable church service on the morning of February 5, 2012 at 10:00 A.M., which will incorporate some of the artifacts which were used in 1812. Reverend Liz Walker, well known former anchor at Channel 4, will be the keynote speaker for this event. In the afternoon the Bigelow Room of our church will be filled with articles from our historical collection which will give visitors a sense of the church and its history. There will be a re-enactment of Ann Hasseltine Judson – the wife of one of the first missionaries, Adoniram Judson, by Betsey Bennett, to be held in the Emerson Hall Auditorium. Betsey is our Christian Education Director and has done a great deal of research studying the life of Ann Judson.
Our Historical Room will be open for visiting. Included there are many pictures showing the history of Tabernacle and particularly this remarkable occasion, which took place in our first Tabernacle Church so many years ago.
For additional events all week celebrating American Culture and the Missionary Enterprise:
